Energy Efficiency Driving Resiliency in Design and Operations with Darren Dageforde P.E.

ANTHONY'S STEAKHOUSE (Buffet: $18), 7220 F St

Tuesday, December 10th; check-in starts at 11:30 a.m.

In this presentation, we will look at the many steps that have been implemented at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to cut energy consumption and how the results impact resiliency, redundancy and future design planning.  We will discuss how these actions affect occupant comfort and system safety, including both direct and indirect consequences of significant design and operational decision.  We will close out with a discussion of why this is important to the customer and clients of the HVAC design and equipment supply community.

Darren Dageforde P.E. is the Executive Director of Utilities and Energy Optimization for the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.  At UNMC, he is responsible for the central generation, distribution, control and utilization of chilled water, steam, hot water, emergency and normal power.  He leads the building automation, design engineering and sustainability teams on the UNMC campus.  From 2010 to 2015, his teams at UNMC have reduced campus total energy consumption by 25% and peaks by over 28% while increasing campus building area. In 2014 he was awarded an ASHRAE first place Technology Award in recognition, on an international scale, of outstanding achievement in the design and operation of energy efficiency buildings.  He and his wife Karen reside in a net zero energy and net zero waste home that they designed and built south of Blair, Nebraska.
