President’s Message

Welcome to 2019! I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and Happy New Year with friends and family! I was able to enjoy some much needed family time over the holidays. The only downside was that I was reminded how much fun it is to drive across Nebraska with 40 mph wind gusts.

We are continuing our strong programs into 2019. We start the year off with a discussion on BACnet Best Practices by our very own Jake Kopocis. Jake is an active member of ASHRAE Standard 135 BACnet A Data Communication Protocol for Building Automation and Control Networks and I am sure he will share a ton of very useful information for everyone in attendance.

We have three other local events coming up I want to make sure everyone is aware of. On January 24th we are hosting a CEU hour and Team Trivia Night. The CEU hour will be a presentation on The (un)Ethical Engineer and will be follow up with a competitive game of team trivia. The trivia questions will cover a broad range of topics. There is another upcoming educational opportunity with the annual Nebraska Architectural Engineering Conference (NAEC) coming up on February 28th. This year the conference will be hosted at the Scott Conference Center and contains 10 technical sessions on different building system technologies and applications.

The other event that is coming up is the Nebraska ASHRAE Government Outreach Day. This is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19th and is being put together by our Government Affairs Committee (GAC). The event will allow ASHRAE volunteers the opportunity to visit with local representatives at the state capital to promote ASHRAE as a resource and discuss a potential bill to update the Nebraska building codes. Our GAC committee of Jim Butler and Tyler Glesne have put a lot of effort in putting this event together and I hope we are able to fill all the available volunteer spots. Also a final reminder that the ASHRAE Winter Meeting and AHRI Expo is about to take place in Atlanta, GA from January 12-16. If you are tired of our Midwestern Winter it’s not too late to take a trip to a warmer part of the country. If you are planning on attending the conference please try to attend the Region IX Dinner, planned by our own Tyler Glesne, at Tin Lizzy’s on Sunday January 13th. Please see the flyer in the newsletter.

I am looking forward to a fun and productive 2019 for the Nebraska Chapter. We have multiple additional events planned for the upcoming months (social, fundraisers, and philanthropic). We appreciate the support at all of these events from our membership.

Sincerely,

Shaun Nienhueser
