President’s Message

Greetings ASHRAE Members

For those of you wondering if we have all moved to the North Pole I am able to confirm we still live in the Midwest, it just feels like the arctic since we are still setting record low temperatures on a daily basis.   My hope is that I don’t have to mention the cold temperatures again in our April newsletter.  To help you day dream about warmer weather please considering attending our Joint CRC with Region X this coming August in San Diego.  Remember we are working on the Nebraska hospitality suite and trying to arrange it on the beach!

Next, I’m pleased to announce that University of Nebraska student Nathan German has been awarded the Willis H. Carrier ASHRAE Society Scholarship this year worth $10,000. He was one of two recipients of this prestigious honor and will be presented with the award at our March meeting.

Our Nebraska chapter did conduct own first “Day on the Hill” event a few weeks ago.  I would like to thank Tyler Glesne, Jessica Errett, Milena Palahanska-Mavrov and Alycia Noble for spending a day in Lincoln at the capital visiting with 20 senators along with Jim Butler for his efforts in helping organize the event.  We were able to discuss who ASHRAE is and provide our support of the local energy and building code update legislation.  Overall ASHRAE provided positions on 11 bills based on our mission statement and position statements.  I hope we are able to grow this event in the future and provide support to our local and state government.

Events like the Day on the Hill are made possible by the many volunteers that donate their time and talents to ASHRAE.  We are always looking for new energetic individuals to join our committee and board.  We only have a few months left in the ASHRAE calendar year and are looking to grow our volunteer base for next years campaign.

Lastly, I would like to remind everyone of the upcoming CEU day and Roast of Tim Wentz coming up on April 18th.  I think both events will be great opportunities to learn something new and enjoy the relationships we are all able to build through ASHRAE.

Sincerely,

Shaun Nienhueser
