President's Message:

Greetings ASHRAE Members

Hello fellow ASHRAE members!  I hope everyone is ready for a warm summer as it decided to jump right into the mid 90’s over the last week.  You may not be used to hearing from us in June but we have added another month of communications and presentations due to our cancelled meetings in March.  We are happy to present a unique topic this month as we get to listen to a Disney Imaginer and get a behind the scene look at design and construction of a Disney theme park.

We are nearing the end of the ASHRAE year but there are still quite a few items going on with our Chapter and Society!  We have postponed our annual golf outing to August 24.  This should allow us the opportunity to host the meal and awards at the end of the outing which we would not be able to do this month.  We also have the Region IX CRC coming up August 6-9 which is being hosted by the Pikes Peak Chapter in Colorado Springs.  Registration should be opening soon and will be posted here.

We are also working to wrap up our annual Research Promotion campaign.  Our Nebraska Chapter goal is to raise $22,300.  These funds go to support research that helps develop the ASHRAE Handbooks, Guidelines and Standards we all use.  Here in Nebraska we currently have nearly $350,000 in active research projects and nearly another $150,000 in recently completed research projects.  These are completely supported by donations like yours.  As you can see Nebraska has a very good return on investment on research occurring in our state.  Please consider donating so ASHRAE can continue to be the foremost knowledge source for the built environment.  You can donate through the ASHRAE website or by reaching out to our RP Team of Nick Mandel, Garrett Johnson, or Kyle Heberly.

Another way to be involved in the development of the ASHRAE Handbooks, Guidelines and Standards is through volunteering for Technical Committees.   The Technical Committees are responsible for the preparation of ASHRAE Handbooks chapter text, ongoing coordination with research projects, the programs at the summer and winter Society meetings amongst many other duties that advance our practice.  You don’t have to be the expert in a particular field to join a TC, only an interest.  To learn more about technical committees check out this part of the ASHRAE website.

The last opportunity I wanted to bring up is the summer conference.  The summer conference has been converted to a virtual conference and is now being offered for only $99.  This gives you access to 92 technical sessions for a very low price.  You also have access to all the material associated with these technical sessions for up to 18 months.  You can find more information here, please consider signing up.

This will be the last time you all have to hear from me as your Chapter President.  I know that is a huge sigh of relief for most of you.    It has been a pleasure serving you all the last 2 years!  You have a great group of volunteers working to keep this Chapter running smoothly that is the envy of many of Chapters in the Society.
